Overnight oats layered with apple and black forest fruits

Overnight oats is definitely my thing for this week, so easy to make, so delicious, and full of fresh fruit. I’ve also got all my homemade oat milk to use up which has to be put on something!

The best thing about these guys (apart from the taste) is how easy they are to put together, and getting to make your breakfast the night before makes for a longer time to enjoy it the day after!

Yesterday I bought some mix cherries blackberries and blackcurrants; otherwise known, of course, as black forest fruits. The mix of sweet and rich cherries and tart berries infuses through the creamy oaks overnight, creating fresh morning taste.

I also did layers of grated apple for a little more sweetness, and it makes this version over overnight oats lighter and lower in calories than a more oat heavy one.

It would be blackforest without chocolate of course, so I sprinkle with some chocolatey date granola. But you could as well use cocoa nibs chocolate raisins or chocolate peanuts or leave the chocolate off all together if you are going for real clean eating.

Recipe facts

Time – takes 4 minutes

Ease – very easy

Servings – one

Calories per serving – around 400

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup of oats
  • 1 cup of oat milk (or normal milk)
  • A handful of mixed berries/cherries
  • One apple, grated

Some chocolate granola or crumbled dark chocolate to top in the morning.

Method

Simply layer up the oats and fruit, start with oats, then berries, then oats then apples. Pour your milk over the top slowly so it fills up all the gaps. Top with some more berries and cover up for the night and pop in the fridge.

Here they are, ready for the fridge!

Serving suggestions

Like I said at the beginning, these are great with a hint of chocolate. Dark rich chocolate is the best bet.

I also like adding a little crunch in the morning, so nuts or granola work a treat sprinkled on top.
